Director, Higher Education Partnerships

The ideal candidate for this position will be an entrepreneurial, experienced, and enthusiastic salesperson who has a track record in building and growing sales in the educational services and/or educational technology businesses. He or she must have significant experience in consultative selling and marketing of services into higher education institutions. Ideally this candidate will have worked in an entrepreneurial/high-growth environment, understands the business development and solution sales processes required to successfully capture the HEd market, and will be able to effectively manage account management and other staff necessary for the HEd team as it grows over time. Demonstrated ability to sell to all levels at target accounts, to discuss higher education market trends intelligently, and to think strategically about growth are essential. Familiarity with curriculum development and instructional design services is a strong plus.


  • Lead acquisition, expansion, and servicing of higher education accounts as well as partners (e.g., technology) and channels (e.g., publishers).
  • Contribute to the development and execution of a marketing strategy and programs for various market sectors within higher education channel.
  • Act as a liaison between the client and operations team during the sales process. Relay information and provide strategic direction to ensure that operations team can provide accurate scope/pricing and a compelling proposal. Assist with project escalation issues as needed.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of sales processes, systems, and support.
  • Partner with instructional design, operations, and technology teams to deliver world-class customer service.
  • Provide inputs to the short- and long-term sales strategy.
  • Responsible for new sales, repeat business, and change orders.

Candidate Requirements

Specifically, we are looking for the following in candidates:

  • Experience doing all aspects of the sales process, until hiring additional staff is warranted. Ability to interface with and manage marketing professionals.
  • Experience and understanding of working with and selling complex solutions to key decision makers and institutional buyers on the academic side of universities, including at the president/provost/dean level.
  • A creative and independent self-starter with the ability to create a sales plan, including pricing, value proposition, lead generation, sales pitch deck, and continuing to iterate and refine all components.
  • A strategic thinker and outstanding tactician, able to devise high-level product and sales strategies, but also roll up sleeves and execute at the account and partner level.
  • Demonstrated success in developing proposal presentations and RFP responses.
  • Proven track record of overachievement in selling and attaining goals.
  • Experience with development of customized solutions and customized pricing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of market developments and customer needs in terms of course and curriculum development for higher education.
  • An outstanding and passionate written and oral communicator who can also be an external spokesperson for the company.
  • Willing to travel as required, at least 25% of the time with more travel initially until an eventual sales organization is built out.
  • Must be strategic, results-oriented, and “hungry” for success.
  • This person will preferably have relevant experience with an online program management (OPM) player, an educational publisher, or an educational technology platform company.
